An observation type in Jana is a predefined category used to organize and track resident observations on the resident profile.

Common observation types include:

  • Toileting

  • Mobility

  • Vitals

  • Nutrition, etc.

Within the Care Task Manager, each custom care task can be assigned to an observation type.

When a care task is associated with an observation type:

  • All charting related to that task is grouped under the corresponding section on the resident profile

  • Observations are easier to find, review, and report on

  • Care documentation remains organized and consistent across residents

Defining an observation type is not required when creating a custom care task. Tasks can still be created and completed by caregivers without being tied to a specific observation category.

Assigning an observation type is optional but recommended when you want task-related charting to appear in a specific section of the resident profile.
